In 2015 Christopher Schlierf was responsible for supporting a massive recruiting campaign for the German military. The concept of the large campaign was developed by the agency Castenow and included 9 films to present the Bundeswehr as an attractive employer. Christopher Schlierf was asked to shoot all 9 films on different bases around Germany. The challenge was to direct authentic portraits of employees but also shoot the films in a very cinematic and epic way. The huge challenge besides the very tough schedule was the wide range of different sets and scenarios that needed to be shot in difficult circumstances on water and in the air. Christopher Schlierf's experience with large sets and big crews allowed him to helm the tricky scenes with tanks, speedboats, jet fighters and helicopters and get all the needed footage of the military assets in action. To make it possible in the given time frame he needed to direct multiple units, coordinate the military units to push their performance to the limit and even had the pleasure to direct the air to air scenes. The films were shot on Arri Mini cameras and anamorphic lenses with the latest technology of gimbal stabilisation systems like Mimic systems. Christopher Schlierf captured the German military in a completely new way, which was highly appreciated by the target audience. The whole campaign with an overall budget of €10.6 Million was a massive success and got awarded. It helped the Federal Defense Forces to develop a brand new image amongst the young generation and catch new potential employees.
